An inside to Thrillers!
Thrillers like other films will use mise-en-scene, camera angles, editing and sound. A thriller can be one of the following, a film a novel or a play. One of the main aims of a thriller is to create tension, keeping the audience on the edge of there seats. Ways in which they do this is by making the audience think that they know what is going to happen, when in reality it is the complete opposite. There are many different types of thrillers ( having many mixed genres) this includes the following : action-thriller, crime-thriller, horror-thriller and many more. Throughout this course i have been researching into the opening scenes of thrillers. This looking at the soundtrack that they have used, the characters chosen with the costumes that they are wearing.I have also focused on the positioning of the credits. This is to make sure that it will look like an opening and not a trailer.
The start of thrillers!
Borgman Opening scene (2004)
- No soundtrack - this was used to not show any emotion, also creating some suspense.
- Ambient sound - this was the sounds of doors shutting, and walking.

Title Sequences in films:
The title sequence in films will take place at the start of a film. They include who is involved in the making of the film and those who were shown acting in the film. Usually they are shown are the start of the film. There are also credits at the end of the film. These tend to include a longer list of the people that are involved that may not have been shown at the start of the film. Although as we are only doing the opening of a thriller ending credits will not be used. We did some research into title sequences and how they have been used other films in order to gain a wider spread of knowledge into the opening credits, here is what we found out:
As we are making the opening of a thriller, i needed to where the title sequences have been placed. A title sequence may make the biggest difference to tell the differences between a opening scene and a trailer. We found out that that the order of the credits shows the importance, the most important going last while those who are least important go first. As the director is the key maker he will go last ( as he is most important )
We also looked at examples of title sequences been shown in other films. The ones that we came across was, Harry Potter, Wizard of Oz and King of Kings. Each one of these would present there title sequences between short snippets of the movie.

- Protect the public from films that main be unsuitable for some ages.
- To inform individuals on the film that they are watching and what it might include.

- This meaning that in order to watch the film they have to be the age of 18 or older. ( being an adult)

- This age range means that it will contain highly offensive or sexual scenes and will have to be licensed to be shown.
Different thrillers will have different audiences that is suitable for the viewings. The BBFC will decide on what they think will be most appropriate for the thriller. This makes it much easier for viewers to know whether to watch it or not.

Genres mixed with thrillers:
Many thrillers include cross genres, this may include genres such as, physiological thrillers, crime thrillers, romantic thrillers, action thrillers and supernatural thrillers.
An example of these thrillers could be the film taken. This is an action/ crime thriller. Different genres of thrillers aim to create a different feeling/ emotion in the viewers.
A romantic thriller will tend to use a main relationship with aspects of a thriller in it. Even though this kind of thrillers will exist there tends to be less of them as it may be hard to link a romantic side of a story with a thriller. The audience of a romantic thrillers will tend to be women based/ or starring mainly women.
An action thriller will be completely different from a romantic thriller, it may contain things such as violence, fighting scenes and guns. As action films mainly want to cause a dramatic effect they will use the use of bloody and death to reach this.
A physiological thriller includes more about the mind and less about blood and death. It will tend to include characters either individually or in groups going against each other, not physically but physiologically.
A Supernatural thrillers again will not tend to include any kind of harm, it will either have a hero or a villain that will have physic ability. The audience of a super natural thriller tends to be women based. A good example of a supernatural thriller would be the Exorcism.
