What ways did your media product use/ develop/ challenge / real media products?
The first that we did when starting our continuity piece was to research other clips from films and how they were put together. The parts of films that we looked at were camera angles, editing, sounds and mise-en-scene. This was to make sure that we had a basic idea on what was the main things that were included into a thriller. Our task had certain tasks that we needed to complete such as shot/reverse shot, 180' rule, match on and action and the opening credits so when planning we made sure that all of this would be included. As it was part of a film we were making and not a trailer we needed to make sure that we showed this in different ways.
Things that we looked at when looking at real media products:
Camera Angles:
Throughout our continuity tasks it shows a verity of different camera angles, some of these were over the shoulder shot, close up, low shot and wide shot. All of these shots have been used in real life products in order to make viewers aware of what is happening, also some of these shots such as over the shoulder shot makes it interact with viewers showing it from the actors perspective.
We used these shots in our piece of work in order to relate it to other films that may have used them but also in order to show the same scenes from many different angles.
Editing:
Editing is an important part of putting together a film as it enables in to flow and make more sense. It was important that we did our research into other films editing before editing our own piece. Our continuity piece consists of cut away, which allows the story to flow well, this technique has also been shown in other films that we were watching before editing our continuity.
Sounds:
Sound can make a big difference to a film. It was important that we did plenty of research to make sure that we were able to create the right sound track. We looked at different parts of films that were able to create tension, as this is what we were looking to use when putting sound onto our continuity piece.
Mise-en-scene:
When bringing together our continuity piece we had to take everything into consideration, this included things such as the costumes, lightening and the props. As like the other aspects that we took into consideration we looked deeply into the costumes. As in other films a villain wears dark clothing in a dark environment, this is also shown in our continuity piece, as this is what our villain is wearing. Also the dark environment is shown when the one actor walks in the villains room which is shown to be very dark yet very spacious.

Every film contains opening credits as it shows who was involved in the film and the people that were used in the process of making it. From watching other film openings we saw that they came one after the other but only showing the main people from who was involved and the making, whereas the ending credits that are shown at the end of a film includes all of the extra people who were both involved in the making. We used this in the continuity exercise were we only used the most important people through the opening credits, as we were only making a 2 minute clip we did not need to include the ending credits.
We were given a list of things that were needed to be shot, such as character opening a door, crossing a room, sitting down with another character and exchanging some lines of dialogue. So we took this and did research on these things. For example we have watched other clips from other films that contain similar features.
How does your media product represent a particular social group?
Different media products choose to represent different social groups. This can vary from lower classes ( poor ) all the way up to a higher class social group ( rich ).
The social group that we have choose to represent are the lower class social group. This is shown in many different ways all the way from the clothes that they are wearing, the environment that they are in and the props that have been used. These have been shown in different ways through the use of different camera angles.
To start with the clothes that the actors are wearing ( hoodies and black trousers ) represents that they are from a lower social group, also through the use of the color of the clothing, which was black. This suggested that they were both dark dull and not full of life. Whereas if we were aiming to represent someone from a higher social group we would have used colors such as red or purple which are colors that many people would suggest are from a rich background.
Clothing:

Clothing:

A black hoodie and black jeans.
Another thing to suggest that they were from a lower social class was the environment that they are in. A dark/ compact room that does not show any day light. Viewers may say that it looks like a room underneath a building which may look very dodgy and go with the representation of it being a lower social group. The room is not very clean, even though it is empty it still has that dirty feel about it. ( not somewhere that you would see someone with a higher social status). In the room all that is in there is two chairs and a table, this already making it look like a suspicious area.
What kind of media institution would distribute your product and why?
There are many ways in which products can be distributed. This could be from television, in the cinema, on the radio, Netflix and many more. As the age category for our product is for adults we needed to think of ways that adults would most like/enjoy to watch our products on. The ways in which we thought would be most effective for us to distribute our products would be at the cinema, on the channel BBC also on DVD.
To start we think that the cinema will be a great place to distribute our product, we think that cinemas are a place where both younger people and older both attend. As we are choosing to attract our audiences through posters outside the cinema we think that it will work well if we were to show the product there as well. The timings of which our product would be shown at the cinema would be late at night, this due to the fact that adults would rather go at this time than during the day. Cinemas tend to be the fist place that people go to when they hear of a new product, and as we are attracting our customers on the internet on a wide spread we think that having showings at the cinema will be very beneficial.
Another place in where we are choosing to distribute our product is on the TV channel ' The BBC'. Reasons behind this is that the people that tend to watch this programme tend to be over the age of 18 or very close to this. Making it the best place for our product to be shown. The showings of our programme will also be later on in the evening, this down to that fact that is an 18 and does contain scenes that are not suitable for the younger ages. Even though we have choose to distribute at the Cinema as well, distributing on the television will be much more long term while the cinema is only really to spread awareness of the new and upcoming film.
The last place in which we would like to distribute our products is on DVD. We think that by distributing on DVD as well as on the television and the cinema will be much more long term because this allows viewers to watch it over and over again. This then leads to a much wider spread of awareness of our product as it wont be something that comes and goes but something that can always be there. Also as said before our age rating is 18, this making it beneficial to them as well, this because even thought we have choose to distribute at cinemas as well we would also like to do it on DVD giving people the choice of how they would proffer to watch it.
This is what the DVD cover to our film will look like.
Who would be the audience for your media product?
The Audience that we have gone for, for our continuity piece is the age rating 18, which will have been set by the BBFC ( the British Board Film Classification ). There are many different ages that can be set by these but it is down to what is involved in the product to what age rating they choose. There are many different things that you would typically see in an 18 such as: very strong violence, sexual scenes, blood and gore, sexual violence and many more. It is important that people are aware of the product age rating that they are watching because it may effect or be inappropriate for some ages.
The reasons behind why our product is set at an 18 is down to many reasons. As our product is all about a deal that has gone wrong it has included very strong language that would not be appropriate for the younger ages. Other reasons why our product is is set at an 18 is because some of the scenes may contain scenes of blood and gore. Which is another thing that is said to be classed to be an 18 age rating. Even though our product has an age rating of 18, this may not stop the younger ages from watching it, but it will be down to the parental guidance to whether they let there children watch it, but we will just label it as this to make them aware of what they are watching may contain some of the things that have been listed above.
It was important when choosing where to distribute our product that it fits with the age category. As we have choose to distribute our product late at night on the BBC around 10pm-11pm, this fits perfectly with an age rating of 18. As it will only be adults that will be allowed to watch it, this is a good time as the younger ages will have gone to bed meaning that they are able to watch it and not miss out on it because they are not there stopping them from watching it.
There is no specific gender that we have choose to aim for, this due to the fact that we think it will attract both genders. It will all be down to the kind of films each individuals are interested in, whether they like our product will be down to there opinion. Even though we do aim to attract both genders, we think that it will bring in more male veiwers, this due to the fact that it contains scenes of blood and gore, which is known by many that boys would proffer to watch this over girls.

Overall the audience for our product will have an age rating of 18, meaning that anyone who is 18 or above the age will be able to watch it. Set at this age rating because some of the scenes are seen as inappropriate. Even though we wish to attract both genders, we believe that our audience will be more boy heavy due to some scenes containing blood and gore.
How did you attract your audience?
There are many different ways that you can attract your audience, this may be through the use of social media, the internet, posters, merchandise and a radio broadcast. There are many different ways in which we were able to attract our audiences. The most important way that we thought that we could attract our audience was through the use of a poster. A poster is the first thing that people see, this is the first thing that people make there judgement on, this meaning that it is most important to make sure that our film poster stands out. We did much research into this, making sure that we knew all of the important things that goes into them. One of these factors was to make sure it was relate able to your product but to also make it stand out from the rest, this due to the fact that there are many film posters and we need to make sure that ours is much better to they choose ours over theirs. Our posters will be shown in many places, this starting with billboards on the main roads and also on the outside of cinemas, showing the preview of what is going to be shown there and then.
Other ways in which we thought that we could attract our audience was through the sites of social media, this is due to the fact that they internet is becoming more and more popular for all ages. The first social media that we chose to attract our audience with was Facebook. One of the reasons for this was because the older ages use this site and as we are attracting the older ages we thought that this would be a perfect place. Our Facebook page allows others to comment on it and have there views of what they think of our product. It is important to us that we can get feedback from our viewers, even if it is negative this will always help us improve the next time around. From launching our Facebook page we have received some comments that were very complimenting, such as the sound goes well with the action, or the camera angles that have been used were fab. This was a very successful way to spread awareness for our product but to also gain the feedback of what people thought of it, as we thought that it was very important to ensure that the viewers are happy and content with what they are watching.
This is the final outcome of what our facebook page will look like:
Another social media site that we thought would attract our audience would be Twitter. This also because of the fact where mainly the older ages use it, and as we are targeting the older ages we thought that this would be the perfect chance to spread awareness for our product. Another benefit of using twitter is that just like Facebook we are able to receive comments and feedback showing what people thought of it. As like i said before it is always important that we make sure the viewers are as happy/ content with what they are watching. Using these two social media sites are very important, and one of our main sources of attracting our audience as these sites that would be most visited by these age category's.
Here is what our Twitter page will look like:
As some people may not use social media we have thought of other ways that we would use the internet to attract our audience. The site that we choose to attract our audience was, was YouTube. This is a very popular site that is viewed by all ages, but known to be watched by the older generations. The way in which we are choosing to use YouTube is through advertisement, when people choose to watch something on here they will see our advertisement on the side. This will pop up on there screens which will allow them to click onto it and go to the link where they are able to watch previews. Also we have created a channel on YouTube, which allows viewers to watch clips from our product this may then attract them to watch the whole thing. Also on the YouTube page they can listen to our radio broadcast that advertises our product.
This is what our you-tube Advertisment will look like:
This leads me on to the last way we choose our attract our audience, through a radio broadcast we are able to let viewers know all about our product trying to persuade and attract them to come and watch it. Also as we are aiming to attract an older age audiences the radio will be the perfect place to advertise, as these are the ages that will be driving and listening to the radio more than the younger age category's.

Here is a small overview on ways we are using to attract our audience:
what have you learnt about technologies?
Thought out the making of this task there are many things that i have been able to learn about technologies that i did not know before. The main thing about technologies that i have learnt the editing of a clip on a computer. There are many different ways that you are able to edit clips together. Some examples of these may be through the use of slow motion, wipe, montage and many more. To make sure that you use the best effect possible it was important that you go through many different ones before you found out which was the most effective.
Cameras have been one of the most important factors through out this exercise. Cameras allow you to look at many different kind of shots, some of these may be an establishing shot, over the shoulder shot or a wide shot. There are many different ones all creating different effects, they can also create different emotions in the viewers, one of the could be a close up to express a sad emotion. From learning about this we took this and put it into use in our continuity piece. We start off with an establishing shot of an individual walking down a set of stairs, we then move to an over the shoulder shot of the individual walking towards the table, all of this building up tension to when the two actors come face to face.
I have extended my knowledge of making a blog. This is by making a blog that has been able to navigate around with the use of hyper links. It was important that i made it as easy as possible for others to navigate, to make sure that they can see everything without any hassle.
